Stone-Expelling Decoction
排石汤 〔排石湯〕pái shí tāng
Source: Empirical formula
Ingredients:
- Yīn chén (茵陈 Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, virgate wormwood) 15g
- Mù xiāng (木香 Aucklandiae Radix, costusroot) 9g
- Zhǐ ké (qiào) (枳壳 Aurantii Fructus, bitter orange) 9g
- Huáng lián (黄连 Coptidis Rhizoma, coptis [root]) 6g
- Huáng qín (黄芩 Scutellariae Radix, scutellaria [root]) 6g
- Dà huáng (大黄 Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, rhubarb) 15g
Action: Clears heat and disinhibits dampness; moves qì and frees disinhibits the gallbladder.
Indication: Hepatic calculus.

Method: Decoct with water, strain, and divide into two doses to be taken in one day.
Rationale: Yīn chén clears heat and disinhibits dampness, thereby abating jaundice. Huáng qín clears heat and drains fire. Dà huáng clears heat and precipitates. These three are the sovereign agents. Mù xiāng rectifies qì and moves stagnation.
