Facial Pain No. 2 Formula
面痛二号方 〔面痛二號方〕miàn tòng èr hào fāng

Ingredients:
- Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome])
- Bái fù zǐ (白附子 Typhonii Rhizoma, typhonium [rhizome])
- Guì zhī (桂枝 Cinnamomi Ramulus, cinnamon twig)
- Bàn xià (半夏 Pinelliae Rhizoma, pinellia [rhizome])
- Fáng fēng (防风 Saposhnikoviae Radix, saposhnikovia)
- Bái zhǐ (白芷 Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Dahurian angelica)
- Qiāng huó (羌活 Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, notopterygium [root])
- Xì xīn (细辛 Asari Rhizoma et Radix, asarum)
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica)
- Dān shēn (丹参 Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, salvia [root])
- Dì lóng (地龙 Pheretima , earthworm)
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root])
Action:
Indication: Facial pain due to wind-cold with phlegm obstructing the network vessels. This form of facial pain is a periodic pulling pain. During bouts, the face is somber white and the pain is exacerbated by exposure to cold. The tongue is pale with a thin white fur. The pulse is tight. If cold phlegm obstructs the network vessels, there may also be puffy face, head heavy as if swathed, a pale enlarged tongue with a thick slimy tongue fur, and soggy slippery pulse.
