Longan Flesh Gruel
龙眼肉粥 〔龍眼肉粥〕 lóng yǎn ròu zhōu

Ingredients
- Lóng yǎn ròu (龙眼肉 Longan Arillus, longan flesh) 15g
- Dà zǎo (大枣 Jujubae Fructus, jujube) 3–5 pieces
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 60g
Actions: Nourishes the heart and quiets the spirit; fortifies the spleen and nourishes the blood.
Indications: Insufficiency of heart blood with heart palpitation, flusteredness, insomnia, anemia, spleen vacuity diarrhea, water swelling, general vacuity and emaciation, spontaneous and night sweating.
Method: Boil all the ingredients together to a thick gruel.
Rationale: Lóng yǎn ròu is warm and sweet. It enters the heart and spleen channels, and hence is particularly suitable for treating heart-spleen vacuity. It contains glucose, sucrose, acids, vitamins A and B, protein, and fat. Dà zǎo fortifies the spleen and boosts the stomach as well as nourishing the heart and supplementing the blood. It contains protein, fats, sugars, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and vitamins B, C, and P (bioflavonoids).
