Blood-Quickening Decoction
活血汤 〔活血湯〕huó xuè tāng
Source: Shòu Shì Bǎo Yuán 寿世保元
Ingredients:
- Guī wěi (归尾 Angelicae Sinensis Radicis Extremitas, Chinese angelica [root] tail)
- Chì sháo (赤芍 Paeoniae Radix Rubra, red peony [root])
- Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome])
- Táo rén (桃仁 Persicae Semen, peach kernel)
- Hóng huā (红花 Carthami Flos, carthamus [flower])
- Ròu guì (肉桂 Cinnamomi Cortex, cinnamon bark)
- Dān pí (丹皮 Moutan Cortex, moutan [bark])
- Yán hú suǒ (延胡索 Corydalis Rhizoma, corydalis [rhizome])
- Wū yào (乌药 Linderae Radix, lindera [root])
- Xiāng fù (香附 Cyperi Rhizoma, cyperus [rhizome])
- Zhǐ ké (qiào) (枳壳 Aurantii Fructus, bitter orange)
- Mù xiāng (木香 Aucklandiae Radix, costusroot)
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root])
Action: Quickens the blood and dispels stasis.
Indication: Abdominal pain of fixed location due to static blood stemming from persistent qì stagnation. Tongue: Purple. Pulse: Rough.
