Yīn macules

阴斑 〔陰斑〕 yīn bān

Also vacuity macules; yīn-pattern macules. Macules occurring in vacuity cold patterns, arising when constitutional vacuity and deep-lying cold or inappropriate use of cold medicinals causes exuberant internal yīn cold and causes rootless fire to spread to the exterior. Yīn macules are pale red and indistinct, and in some cases occur in a small number on the chest only. They are accompanied by counterflow cold of the extremities, unpronounced thirst, clear-grain diarrhea, and a faint sunken pulse. The tongue bears a glossy white fur or may be enlarged with a glossy black fur. See maculopapular eruption.
