When yīn is exuberant, there is internal cold

阴盛则内寒 〔陰盛則內寒〕yáng shèng zé nèi hán

When yīn evil is exuberant, the qì transformation of the bowels and viscera is disturbed, there is congealing stagnation in the blood vessels, and cold-type pathoconditions such as water qì, phlegm-rheum, or swelling and distension arise. Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, tiáo jīng lùn) states, What is yīn exuberance engendering internal cold?... Reverse qì ascends counterflow. Cold qì accumulates in the chest and fails to drain away, and when it fails to drain away, so warm qì disappears leaving only the cold and the blood congeals causing stoppage in the vessels and making the pulse large exuberant and rough; hence this is center cold. See when yīn prevails, there is cold.
