Vacuity fall

虚陷 〔虛陷〕xū xiàn

A fall pattern occurring when a headed flat-abscess () fails to heal owing to spleen-stomach vacuity and qì-blood depletion. In such patterns, the sore-opening is putrid and sloughing, although new flesh fails to grow. Vacuity fall is associated with heat effusion and aversion to cold, lassitude of spirit, torpid intake, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Biomedical correspondence: toxemia.

Medicinal therapy: Supplement the stomach and spleen using Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng) or Yáng-Upbearing Stomach-Boosting Decoction (升阳益胃汤 shēng yáng yì wèi tāng) and variations.

See fall pattern; headed flat-abscess.
