Umbilical sores

脐疮 〔臍瘡〕 qí chuāng

From The Origin and Indicators of Disease (诸病源候论 zhū bìng yuán hòu lùn). A condition that usually develops from umbilical damp. In mild cases, there is redness and swelling of the umbilicus; in severe cases, there is ulceration spreading all around the umbilicus exuding pus and water, and attended by heat effusion, vexation and agitation, red lips and dry mouth.

Medicinal therapy: Treat by clearing heat and resolving toxin, assisted by coursing wind and relieving itch. Apply Indigo and Gold Powder (青金散 qīng jīn sǎn). In severe cases, administer Five-Ingredient Toxin-Dispersing Beverage (五味消毒饮 wǔ wèi xiāo dú yǐn).
