Ulceration of the eyelid rim

眼弦赤烂 〔眼弦赤爛〕yǎn xián chì làn

Also wind ulceration of the eyelid rim. Erosion of palpebral margin with itching, soreness, and, in severe cases, loss of eyelashes. Attributable to damp-heat brewing in the spleen and stomach contending with subsequently contracted wind.

Biomedical correspondence: blepharitis marginalis.

Medicinal therapy: Dispel wind, clear heat, and eliminate dampness. Treatment depends on evil prevalence. If dampness is predominant, use Dampness-Eliminating Decoction (除湿汤 chú shī tāng). If wind prevails, use Bupleurum Powder (柴胡散 chái hú sǎn). If heat prevails, use Three Yellows Heart-Draining Decoction (三黄泻心汤 sān huáng xiè xīn tāng). Egg Yolk Paste (鸡蛋黄油膏 jī dàn huáng yóu gāo), which is made by cooking egg yolks in oil and adding a pinch of ground processed calamine (Calamina, 炉甘石 lú gān shí) and borneol (Borneolum, 冰片 bīng piàn), may be applied topically.

Acumoxatherapy: Moxa Thumb Bone Hollow (大骨空 dà gǔ kōng), Little Finger Bone Hollow (小骨空 xiǎo gǔ kōng), and GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), or needle with drainage.
