Spleen governs later heaven

脾主后天 〔脾主後天〕pí zhǔ hòu tiān

The spleen moves and transforms ingested food to produce the body’s day-to-day requirements in nutrients. Later heaven means the constitution of the body determined by factors prevailing after birth, i.e., it is the acquired constitution. The spleen is the basis of later heaven (acquired constitution), its health being a prerequisite for the assimilation on which all the other organs depend.
