The spleen is located in the middle of the body, in the center burner, and among the five phases is associated with earth, to which the center position is also associated. Earth is the mother of the myriad things, bringing forth the crops that sustain humanity. The spleen holds a corresponding function in the body: producing the nutrients for the body from ingested foods.
