Skin water

皮水 〔皮水〕pí shuǐ

From Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet (金匮要略 jīn guì yào lüè, shuǐ qì bìng mài zhèng bìng zhì). Water swelling of gradual onset that engulfs the fingers, associated with drum-like enlargement of the abdomen, with absence of both sweating and thirst, and with a floating pulse. Skin water is attributed to spleen vacuity with severe dampness causing water to spill into the skin.

Medicinal therapy: Free yáng, fortify the spleen, and disinhibit water using formulas like Fangji and Poria Decoction (防己茯苓汤 fáng jǐ fú líng tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: See water swelling.
