Simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea

上吐下泻 〔上吐下瀉〕shàng tù xià xiè

Vomiting and diarrhea occurring at the same time or alternating. It is classically observed in cholera, which in Chinese called sudden turmoil (霍亂 huò luàn) precisely because of this dual sign. It can occur as a result of seasonal epidemic, food stagnation, damp-heat, vacuity cold, or cold-damp.
