Trembling with a subjective sensations of cold. Occurring in malaria, it comes at regular intervals and is followed by high fever. In other febrile diseases, it is a sign of exuberant interior heat preventing yáng qì from effusing to the exterior and is treated by clearing heat or outthrusting evil.
