Red wandering cinnabar

赤游丹 〔赤游丹〕chì yóu dān

Also red wandering cinnabar toxin. A type of infantile cinnabar toxin, attributed to contraction of heat in the uterus, heralded by generalized heat, crying, fright, and spasm, and characterized by the appearance of red swollen areolas the color of cinnabar that gradually spread and wander with no fixed location. Spreading from the abdomen and back to the limbs is favorable; starting at the limbs and moving into the chest and abdomen is unfavorable.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and resolve toxin. Oral: In the initial stage, use Forsythia Drink (连翘饮子 lián qiào yǐn zi) followed by Toxin-Dispersing Rhinoceros Beverage (消毒犀角饮 xiāo dú xī jiǎo yǐn). Topical: Remove malign blood with alum (Alumen, 白矾 bái fán), and then place thin slices of beef or goat’s meat on the patches, and allow them to dry slightly before changing them. If the meat slices do not dry, use Agreeable Golden Yellow Powder (如意金黄散 rú yì jīn huáng sǎn) mixed with the juice of indigo residue (Indigonis Residuum, 蓝靛 lán diàn).
