Quelling the liver

伐肝 〔伐肝〕 fā gān

Also repress the liver. A method of treatment used to control excessively exuberant liver qì invading the spleen.

Medicinal therapy: Liver-quelling medicinals include bupleurum (Bupleuri Radix, 柴胡 chái hú), unripe tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, 青皮 qīng pí), costusroot (Aucklandiae Radix, 广木香 guǎng mù xiāng), and Buddha’s hand (Citri Sarcodactylidis Fructus, 佛手柑 fó shǒu gān). Quelling the liver is similar to coursing the liver.
