Purple menstrual flow

经来紫色 〔經來紫色〕 jīng lái zǐ sè

Menstrual flow that is purple in color, i.e., much darker than the normal color. Purple menstrual flow is a repletion heat pattern arising when liver depression transforms into fire, which damages qì, causing qì heat that scorches the blood.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and regulate the menses with Four Agents Decoction (四物汤 sì wù tāng) plus coptis (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连 huáng lián) and cyperus (Cyperi Rhizoma, 香附子 xiāng fù zǐ).
