Postpartum generalized pain

产后遍身疼痛 〔產後遍身疼痛〕 chǎn hòu piàn shēn téng tòng

Generalized pain arising after childbirth when a) qì and blood are depleted and fail to move properly, b) retention of lochia gives rise to blood stasis, or c) wind-cold exploits vacuity to enter the body and cause stagnation in the vessels.

Medicinal therapy: For blood vacuity, nourish and quicken the blood with Perfect Major Supplementation Decoction (十全大补汤 shí quán dà bǔ tāng). For blood stasis, quicken the blood and transform stasis with Four Agents Decoction (四物汤 sì wù tāng) plus large gentian (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, 秦艽 qín jiāo), peach kernel (Persicae Semen, 桃仁 táo rén), myrrh (Myrrha, 没药 mò yào), and carthamus (Carthami Flos, 红花 hóng huā). For wind-cold, characterized by headache, heat effusion, and aversion to cold, nourish the blood and dispel wind with Pain-Chasing Powder (趋痛散 qū tòng sǎn).
