Generalized pain arising after childbirth when a) qì and blood are depleted and fail to move properly, b) retention of lochia gives rise to blood stasis, or c) wind-cold exploits vacuity to enter the body and cause stagnation in the vessels.
Medicinal therapy: For blood vacuity, nourish and quicken the blood with Perfect Major Supplementation Decoction (十全大补汤shí quán dà bǔ tāng). For blood stasis, quicken the blood and transform stasis with Four Agents Decoction (四物汤sì wù tāng) plus large gentian (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, 秦艽qín jiāo), peach kernel (Persicae Semen, 桃仁táo rén), myrrh (Myrrha, 没药mò yào), and carthamus (Carthami Flos, 红花hóng huā). For wind-cold, characterized by headache, heat effusion, and aversion to cold, nourish the blood and dispel wind with Pain-Chasing Powder (趋痛散qū tòng sǎn).
