Nourishing the heart and quieting the spirit

养心安神 〔養心安神〕yǎng xīn ān shén

A method of treatment used to address disquieted heart spirit due to heart blood depletion characterized by heart palpitation, susceptibility to fright, forgetfulness, insomnia, abstraction, profuse dreaming and seminal emission, dry bound stool, mouth and tongue sores, red tongue with scant fur, and a rapid fine pulse.

Medicinal therapy: A commonly used heart-nourishing spirit-quieting formula is Arborvitae Seed Heart-Nourishing Pill (柏子养心丸 bǎi zǐ yǎng xīn wán).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on BL-15 (Heart Transport, 心俞 xīn shù), BL-17 (Diaphragm Transport, 膈俞 gé shù), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), HT-7 (Spirit Gate, 神门 shén mén), HT-8 (Lesser Mansion, 少府 shào fǔ), PC-4 (Cleft Gate, 郄门 xī mén), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), and PC-5 (Intermediary Courier, 间使 jiān shǐ).
