Moxa burner

温灸器 〔溫灸器〕 wēn jiǔ qì

Any receptacle designed to hold moxa while it is being burned close to the skin. Moxa burners were often traditionally made of brass. While the moxa burns, the warming instrument is moved slowly over the area to be treated until the skin turns red. A piece of cotton cloth (red) is often placed between the instrument and the skin to prevent accidental burns. This method is particularly suitable for the treatment of women, children, infants, and patients who are afraid of being burned. Different areas of the body can be treated in this way using warming instruments available in flat and angular shapes.
