Lung is the governor of qì

肺为气之主 〔肺為氣之主〕fèi wéi qì zhī zhǔ, shèn wéi qì zhī gēn

The lung is the most important viscus as regards qì because it draws in great qì (air) from the environment, which combines with the essence of grain and water absorbed by the spleen to create the yáng qì of the body and because it has a general affect on the overall movement of qì in the body. See the lung governs qì. While the lung is the governor of qì, the kidney is the root of qì.
