From Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, xuān míng wǔ qì pian) The lung cannot tolerate excessive cold. The lung governs qì, is connected with the skin and body hair in the outer body, and opens at the nose. Cold evil can directly assail the exterior and damage outer defense yáng and easily invade the lung channel. The lung also governs qì. When there is cold, qì becomes stagnant. Spleen-stomach vacuity cold can also affect the lung. These statements support the classical statement that the lung is averse to cold.
