Lung block panting and cough

肺闭喘咳 〔肺閉喘咳〕 fèi bì chuǎn ké

Any condition in which an external evil obstructs the lung, preventing lung qì from diffusing. Lung block panting and cough is characterized by heat effusion, rapid breathing, cough, and, in severe cases, flaring nostrils, somber complexion, and blue lips. It is common among small children, and arises when wind-cold fetters the outer body, when wind warmth invades the lung, or when fire heat distresses the lung (effulgent fire tormenting metal). In wind-cold fettering the outer body, the signs include aversion to cold, headache, absence of sweating, cough, and panting. Wind warmth invading the lung is characterized by mild aversion to cold and strong heat effusion or the absence of aversion to heat effusion. In addition, there is sweating, cough, rib-side pain, red tongue with slightly yellow fur. The pattern of fire heat distressing the lung is characterized by high fever, sweating, vexing thirst, rapid panting breathing, and a large surging pulse.
