Blood mounting

血疝 〔血疝〕xuè shàn

1. A mounting disease mentioned in the The Origin and Indicators of Disease (诸病源候论 zhū bìng yuán hòu lùn, jí huáng hòu) characterized by painful binding of static blood in the smaller abdomen manifesting as hard fullness that is palpably circumscribed, and, in severe cases, associated with black stool, inhibited urination, and menstrual irregularities.

Medicinal therapy: Use Cinnamon Twig and Poria Pill (桂枝茯苓丸 guì zhī fú líng wán) or Lesser Abdomen Stasis-Expelling Decoction (少腹逐瘀汤 shào fù zhú yū tāng).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LR and SP. Select LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), SP-10 (Sea of Blood, 血海 xuè hǎi), SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), CV-3 (Central Pole, 中极 zhōng jí), and GB-41 (Foot Overlooking Tears, 足临泣 zú lín qì); needle with drainage.

2. Prolonging Life and Preserving the Origin (寿世保元 shòu shì bǎo yuán): Blood swelling of the scrotum following external injury.

3. In the The Golden Mirror of Medicine (医宗金鑑 yī zōng jīn jiàn): biàn toxin [sore] or fish mouth.
