Insensitivity of the flesh

肌肉不仁 〔肌肉不仁〕jī ròu bù rén

Inability to experience pain, itching, cold or heat in the flesh. Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, wěi lùn) states, When spleen qì is hot, then the stomach is dry, there is thirst and insensitivity of the flesh. This develops into flesh wilting. The Clear Rationale of Cold Damage (伤寒明理论 shāng hán míng lǐ lùn, bù rén) states, Insensitive means not lithe, not knowing itching, not knowing pain, not knowing cold, and not knowing heat. Any bending and stretching, moxibustion and acupuncture treatment is not felt. This is called insensitivity, which arises when evil qì is congested, right is qì blocked and hidden by evil qì that lies depressed and fails to effuse, and when provisioning and defense qì are vacuous and scantand cannot move freely.
