Inch whiteworm

寸白虫 〔寸白蟲〕cùn bái chóng

Also spleen worm disease; white worm disease. From The Origin and Indicators of Disease (诸病源候论 zhū bìng yuán hòu lùn). One of the nine worm diseases. A worm disease attributed to eating raw or improperly cooked pork or other meat and characterized by abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and diarrhea with the passing of white segments (proglottids). Inch whiteworm is so called because the worm is passed in short segments.

Biomedical correspondence: tapeworm infestation (cestodiasis, taeniasis).

Medicinal therapy: Treat by expelling worms until the head segment (scolex) is passed. Use medicinals such as areca (Arecae Semen, 槟榔 bīng láng), pumpkin seed (Cucurbitae Semen, 南瓜子 nán guā zǐ), agrimony (Agrimoniae Herba, 仙鹤草 xiān hè cǎo), and pomegranate rind (Granati Pericarpium, 石榴皮 shí liú pí).
