Bladder qì block
膀胱气闭 〔膀胱氣閉〕 páng guāng qì bì
Impairment of bladder qì transformation (the action of the bladder) mostly related to inhibited qì transformation of the kidney, lung, or triple burner, resulting in inhibited urination, difficult urination, or urinary block with smaller abdominal distension. Bladder qì block is a functional disorder of the bladder preventing normal flow of urine and differs from blockage caused by stones, which is mechanical in nature.
Medicinal therapy: For inhibited qì transformation of the bladder due to kidney vacuity, use variations of raising the pot and removing the lid
(causing the patient to sneeze or vomit) to open lung qì; if after a long time heat develops,
Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on KI and BL. Select BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), BL-22 (Triple Burner Transport, 三焦俞 sān jiāo shù), KI-10 (Yīn Valley, 阴谷 yīn gǔ), BL-39 (Bend Yáng, 委阳 wěi yáng), and SP-6 (Three Yīn Intersection, 三阴交 sān yīn jiāo), needle with supplementation and add moxa. For pronounced smaller abdominal fullness and distension, add CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi).
- For kidney vacuity and inhibited qì transformation, add CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán) and GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén).
- For lung-metal dryness-heat and impaired downbearing of qì, needle with drainage at LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), and LU-7 (Broken Sequence, 列缺 liè quē).
