Glue

胶 〔膠〕jiāo

The reduced extract of boiled skins, bone, shells or horns. Glues are hard and even somewhat brittle at normal temperature, their gluey quality only becoming fully apparent when heated. Most are supplementing medicinals. Examples include ass hide glue (Asini Corii Colla, 阿胶 ē jiāo), tiger bone glue (Tigris Gelatinum Ossis, 虎骨胶 hǔ gǔ jiāo), turtle shell glue (Trionycis Carapacis Gelatinum, 鳖甲胶 biē jiǎ jiāo), tortoise shell glue (Testudinis Carapacis et Pastri Gelatinum, 龟版胶 guī bǎn jiāo), and deerhorn glue (Cervi Cornus Gelatinum, 鹿角胶 lù jiǎo jiāo).
