Fullness and distension in the heart region and abdomen during pregnancy

妊娠心腹胀满 〔妊娠心腹脹滿〕 rèn shēn xīn fù zhàng mǎn

A disease pattern attributed to contraction of cold or food damage in women usually suffering from vacuity cold, causing congestion of stomach qì internal obstruction. Fullness is often accompanied by oppression in the stomach duct and no thought of food. Where cold contraction is a factor, there is pronounced distension after eating that likes warmth and pressure, and treatment takes the form of warming the center and dispersing cold with formulas such as Costusroot and Amomum Six Gentlemen Decoction (香砂六君子汤 xiāng shā liù jūn zǐ tāng). Where there is food damage, there is painful distension after eating, putrid belching, and acid swallowing, and treatment takes the form of dispersing food and transforming stasis using formula such as Harmony-Preserving Pill (保和丸 bǎo hé wán).
