Also belly. The anterior aspect of the body from the ribs down to the genitals, considered yīn in relationship to the back, which is yáng. The abdomen is divided into the greater abdomen (the part above the umbilicus) and the smaller abdomen (the part below the umbilicus). A small part of the greater abdomen immediately below the breastbone is variously referred to as the [region] below the heart or the heart[region] (see heart region and abdomen). The central part of the upper abdomen is called the stomach duct. The lesser abdomen usually refers to the lateral areas of the lower abdomen, but is sometimes used to mean smaller abdomen.
