Five minds forming fire
五志化火 〔五志化火〕wǔ zhì huà huǒ
Excess of one or more of the five minds (joy, anger, worry, thought, and fear) causing fire signs such as vexation and agitation, irascibility, dizziness, insomnia, bitter taste in the mouth, rib-side pain, panting and cough, and blood ejection. In modern medicine, lasting mental or emotional activity causes nervous excitement or depression, which affects normal functions of the body. In Chinese medicine, the five minds or seven affects are seen to cause disturbances of qì and depletion of the true yīn of the bowels and viscera, causing heat signs.
