Fire fall

火陷 〔火陷〕huǒ xiàn

Transmission of the heat toxin from flat-abscess () of the head to provisioning-blood. In its exuberant heat toxin stage, a flat-abscess of the head becomes dark purple in color, pus ceases to flow from the open head, and the opening becomes dry. The base of the flat-abscess becomes broad and diffuse. At this stage, the heat toxin enters the provisioning-blood, causing vigorous heat [effusion], thirst, heart vexation, agitation, delirious speech, constipation, reddish urine, a crimson tongue, and a rapid pulse.

Biomedical correspondence: myofibroma; lipoma.

Medicinal therapy: Clear provisioning, cool the blood, and resolve toxin. Use Provisioning-Clearing Decoction (清营汤 qīng yíng tāng), Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction (犀角地黄汤 xī jiǎo dì huáng tāng), or Coptis Toxin-Resolving Decoction (黄连解毒汤 huáng lián jiě dú tāng). If necessary, Peaceful Palace Bovine Bezoar Pill (安宫牛黄丸 ān gōng niú huáng wán) or Purple Snow Elixir (紫雪丹 zǐ xuě dān) may also be used to open the orifices. For topical treatment, see headed flat-abscess.
