External blowing
外吹 〔外吹〕wài chuī
Also external blowing mammary welling-abscess. A postpartum mammary welling-abscess, so called on account of the belief that it arose when, after breast-feeding, the infant slept soundly in the mother’s bosom and its cool breath invaded the breast. Compare internal blowing.
Etymology
Chin 外 wài, external, outer; 吹 chuī, blow. So called because it was originally attributed to external wind blowing on the breast or the breath of the infant.
