A method of treatment used to address depletion of kidney yīn and hyperactivity of kidney fire.

Medicinal therapy: Treatment is based on kidney-enriching essence-boosting medicinals, and assisted by fire-downbearing yīn-firming medicinals such as anemarrhena (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母 zhī mǔ), phellodendron (Phellodendri Cortex, 黄柏 huáng bǎi), and moutan (Moutan Cortex, 牡丹皮 mǔ dān pí). Sometimes cornus (Corni Fructus, 山茱萸 shān zhū yú), calcined dragon bone (Mastodi Ossis Fossilia Calcinata, 煅龙骨 duàn lóng gǔ), and calcined oyster shell (Ostreae Concha Calcinata, 煅牡蛎 duàn mǔ lì) are also used. A commonly used yīn-enriching fire-downbearing formula is Anemarrhena and Phellodendron Eight-Ingredient Pill (知柏八味丸 zhī bǎi bā wèi wán).
