Enlarged tongue
舌胖 〔舌胖〕shé pàng
A tongue that is swollen to a size slightly larger than normal, most clearly indicated by dental impressions on the margin. An enlarged tongue indicates qì vacuity or the presence of water-damp (dampness, phlegm-rheum). An enlarged tongue that is pale in color, with a white, glossy fur, indicates qì vacuity. With a slimy tongue fur, it usually indicates dampness or damp-heat. An enlarged tongue is markedly different from a red sore swollen tongue, which characterizes an intense heat evil or heart fire flaming upward.
See tongue examination.
