Drench

冲 〔沖〕 chōng

To saturate or dissolve medicinals in liquid. Formulas often indicate that dry mineral medicinals such as mirabilite (Natrii Sulfas, 芒硝 máng xiāo) and cinnabar (Cinnabaris, 朱砂 zhū shā) or sticky medicinals such as malt sugar (Maltosum, 饴糖 yí táng), which means that they can be mixed with the decoction of the other medicinals in the formula or other fluid to facilitate swallowing.
