M-BW-35 Paravertebrals
夹脊 〔夾脊〕jiá jí
Channel: Non-Channel Point
Modern location: An acupoint located in a line on either side of the spine, 0.5 cùn lateral to the inferior border of the spinous processes of the first cervical to the fifth lumbar vertebrae. There are 24 points on each side.
Local anatomy: Each point is supplied by a medial branch of the dorsal ramus of its corresponding spinal nerve and accompanying artery and vein.
Modern indications: The cervical paravertebrals are indicated for disorders of the head, neck and upper limbs. The indications for the thoracic and lumbar paravertebrals are similar to those of the back transport points. The paravertebral points on the upper back are used for disorders of the lower abdomen, kidney, intestines, bladder and lower limbs.
Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion for the cervical or thoracic vertebrae. 1.5‒2.0 cùn perpendicular insertion for the lumbar vertebrae. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 5‒15 min.
Needle sensation: Aching and distension emanating outward around the point.
