Seven Pinches Powder
七厘散 〔七釐散〕 qī lí sǎn

Ingredients
- Xuè jié (血竭 Daemonoropis Resina, dragon’s blood) 300g
- Ér chá (儿茶 Catechu , cutch) 80g
- Rǔ xiāng (乳香 Olibanum , frankincense) 50g
- Mò yào (没药 Myrrha , myrrh) 50g
- Hóng huā (红花 Carthami Flos, carthamus [flower]) 50g
- Zhū shā gēn (朱砂根 Ardisiae Crenatae Radix, coral ardisia [root]) 40g
- Shè xiāng (麝香 Moschus , musk) 10g
- Bīng piàn (冰片 Borneolum , borneol) 10g
Actions: Quickens the blood and dispels stasis; disperses swelling and relieves pain.
Indications: Injury from knocks and falls and bone fractures with stasis and swelling.

Rationale: This is a well-known commercial product. Rǔ xiāng, Mò yào, Hóng huā, and Xuè jié quicken the blood and dispel stasis, and hence relieve the pain and swelling caused by blood stasis in knocks and falls. Shè xiāng and Bīng piàn pervade and free the network vessels, while Zhū shā quiets the spirit. ér chá stanches bleeding and relieves pain. The formula can not only be taken orally to treat internal injury but can also be applied topically to stanch bleeding.
