Notes: A form of 黄芪 from Qíqíhāěr in Hēilóngjiāng Province or Níng'ān in Jílín Province that has a blackish skin. Also known as black astragalus is astragalus died with the juice of the leaves of Koelreuteria paniculata, varnish tree.

Product description: Black-skinned astragalus is Astragalus mongholicus dyed with the decocted fluid of the leaves of Koelreuteria paniculata (wū lā yè). The outer skin is grayish black in color and is loose. The firmer interior wood is deep yellow, with pronounced medullary rays.

Etymology: The name hēi pí qí 黑皮芪 literally means black-skinned astragalus.
