一枝蒿 〔一枝蒿〕 yī zhī hāo

Origin in unofficial sources: Achillea alpina L.; Achillea wilsoniana (Heim.) Heim.

Use: Medicinal

Properties: Acrid and bitter; slightly warm; toxic.

Channel entry: Heart, liver, and lung channels.*

Actions and indications: Quickens the blood; expels wind; relieves pain; resolves toxin. Treats injury from knocks and falls; wind-damp pain; glomus lump; swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng).

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (1.5–3g); can also be steeped in wine or used in powders. Topical: Apply crushed.

Warnings: Contraindicated in pregnancy.
