Use: Medicinal

Properties: Acrid and bitter; cool.

Channel entry: Liver and gallbladder channels.

Actions and indications: Courses wind and clears heat; disperses swellings and resolves toxin. Treats headache due to cold; painful swollen throat; jaundice; whooping cough; child fright wind; injury from knocks and falls; swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng) and effusion of the back (fā bèi); goose-foot wind.

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (9–15g dried or 20–30g fresh). Topical: Apply crushed or decoct as a wash.

Production area: Most parts of China.
