Properties: Acrid and salty; cold; nontoxic.

Channel entry: Liver and gallbladder channels.

Actions and indications: Clears heat and resolves toxin; disinhibits dampness and disperses stagnation; quickens the blood and relieves pain. Treats common cold with heat effusion; cough; sore throat; malarial disease; jaundice; nephritic edema; sinew and bone pain; child gān accumulation; welling- and flat-abscesses (yōng jū), and clove sores (dīng); injury from knocks and falls.

Production area: Grows in open grassland and damp roadsides in Shāndōng, Zhèjiāng, Jiāngsū, Jiāngxī, Húběi, Sìchuān, Yúnnán, Guǎngdōng, Fújiàn, and Táiwān.
