Use: Medicinal

Properties: Sour and bitter; balanced.

Actions and indications: Disinhibits water and disperses swelling; clears heat; quickens the blood; and resolves toxin. Treats water swelling; jaundice; diarrhea; malarial disease; dysentery; whooping cough; strangury-turbidity (lìn zhuó); cinnabar toxin; scrofula; eczema; scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn).

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (9–15g dried, 21–45g fresh). Topical: Apply crushed or decoct as a wash.

Production area: All parts of China.
