Origin in unofficial sources: Polygonum hydropiper L.

Use: Medicinal

Properties: Acrid; balanced.

Actions and indications: Kills worms and relieves itching; dispels wind and disperses swelling; transforms dampness and moves stagnation. Treats scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn); swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng); injury from knocks and falls; vomiting, diarrhea, and cramp; dysentery; wind-damp; leg qì (jiǎo qì); scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn).

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (15–30g dried, 30–60 fresh). Topical: Decoct as a wash (90–120g) or apply crushed.
