白牛胆 〔白牛膽〕 bái niú dǎn

Origin in unofficial sources: Inula cappa DC.

Use: Medicinal

Properties: Bitter and slightly acrid; balanced (warm); nontoxic.

Actions and indications: Dispels wind; disinhibits dampness; moves qì; transforms stagnation. Treats rheumatic arthritis; glomus and oppression in the chest and diaphragm; malarial disease; dysentery; diarrhea; postpartum common cold; hepatitis; hemorrhoids; scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn).

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (15–30g dried, 30–60g fresh). Topical: Apply crushed or decoct as a wash.
