Use: Medicinal

Properties: Bitter and astringent*; cool*.

Actions and indications: Clears heats and resolves toxin; disperses swellings and relieves pain; kills worms.* Treats tonsillitis; toothache; sore throat; lymphoid tuberculosis; bald scalp sores (tū chuāng); sores, boils, scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn); welling- and flat-abscesses (yōng jū).*

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (9–15g). Topical: Apply crushed or decoct as a wash.
