Origin in unofficial sources: Cynanchum paniculatum (Bge.) Kitag.* [= Pycnostelma chinense Bge. ex Decne.; P. paniculatum (Bge.) K. Schum.]

Use: Medicinal

Properties: Acrid; warm; nontoxic.

Actions and indications: Settles pain, relieves cough, disinhibits water and disperses swelling; quickens the blood and resolves toxin. Treats stomach pain; toothache; wind-damp pain; menstrual pain; chronic tracheitis; ascites; water swelling; dysentery; enteritis; injury from knocks and falls; eczema; urticaria; venomous snake bites.

Dosage and method: Oral: 3–9g (decoct); can be made into pills or steeped in wine. Topical: Apply crushed to decoct as a wash.

Production area: Most parts of China.
