Properties: Sweet and slightly bitter*; cool*.

Actions and indications: Resolves the exterior; clear summerheat; disinhibits dampness; resolves toxin; and quickens the blood. Treats painful swollen joints due to wind-damp (rheumatism); gastroenteritis; malarial disease; mammary welling-abscesses (rǔ yōng); gān of the teeth and gums; starry eye screens.

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (3–9g root, 15–30g leaf) or grind to a powder. Topical: Apply crushed.
