Ingredients:

• Shēng shí gāo (生石膏 Gypsum Crudum, crude gypsum) 30g
• Zhī mǔ (知母 Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, anemarrhena [root]) 12g
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 6g
• Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 20g
• Xī jiǎo (犀角 Rhinocerotis Cornu, rhinoceros horn) (predecocted) 6g
• Xuán shēn (玄参 Scrophulariae Radix, scrophularia [root]) 10g

Action: Clears heat and resolves toxin; cools the blood and transforms macules.

Indication: baihutangpattern with blood heat causing papules, delirious speech, or manic raving.

Rationale: This is Bái hǔ tāng (白虎汤 White Tiger Decoction), which clears qì-aspect heat, with Xuán shēn to clear provisioning heat and Xuán shēn to clear the heart, revive the spirit, cool the blood, and resolve toxin. When heat is cleared and the blood is cooled, the macules disappear; hence the name of the decoction.

Notes: This is a variant of Bái hǔ tāng (白虎汤 White Tiger Decoction).
