Ingredients

• Qiān (铅 Galenitum , galenite) 60g
• Liú huáng (硫黄 Sulphur , sulfur) 60g
• Fù zǐ (附子 Aconiti Radix Lateralis Praeparata, aconite [accessory root]) (blast-fried) 30g
• Ròu guì (肉桂 Cinnamomi Cortex, cinnamon bark) 15g
• Hú lú bā (胡芦巴 Trigonellae Semen, fenugreek [seed]) 30g
• Bǔ gǔ zhī (补骨脂 Psoraleae Fructus, psoralea [fruit]) 30g
• Yáng qǐ shí (阳起石 Actinolitum , actinolite) 30g
• Xiǎo huí xiāng (小茴香 Foeniculi Fructus, fennel [fruit]) 30g
• Chén xiāng (沉香 Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, aquilaria [wood]) 30g
• Ròu dòu kòu (肉豆蔻 Myristicae Semen, nutmeg) 30g
• Chuān liàn zǐ (川楝子 Toosendan Fructus, toosendan [fruit]) 30g
• Mù xiāng (木香 Aucklandiae Radix, costusroot) 30g

Actions: Warms the kidney and absorbs qì; stabilizes panting.

Indications: (a) Lower origin vacuity cold, kidney failing to absorb qì, phlegm congesting in the chest, qì ascent with hasty rapid panting, reversal cold of the limbs, pale tongue with white furXX; (b) running piglet with qì surging up into the chest, and distension and fullness in the abdomen and rib-side; (c) cold mounting (hán shàn) with abdominal pain, rumbling intestines, and efflux diarrhea.

Dosage: Swallow 3–6g as a powder twice daily; or decoct 9–12g (boil the powder wrapped in cloth).

Rationale: Heixi downbears counterflow qì and phlegm-drool. Liú huáng supplements the kidney fire, and disperses yīn cold. As the sovereign agents, treat the root and tip: Warming the kidney to promote qì absorption, and eliminating the phlegm. Fù zǐ, Ròu guì, Hú lú bā, Bǔ gǔ zhī, Yáng qǐ shí, and Xiǎo huí xiāng, which warm kidney yáng and supplement the life gate fire, act as the minister agents. Chuān liàn zǐ is cold and bitter is an opposite-natured assistant that rectifies qì and relieves pain. Mù xiāng, Ròu dòu kòu, and Chén xiāng, the courier, move qì and downbear counterflow. Note this is an emergency formula. Do not take over long period of time for fear of galenite poisoning. Do not take in pregnancy or in lower burner yīn vacuity.
